TED talk 2: Ash Beckham: We're all hiding something. Let's find the courage to open up
We all have something that causes us to hide behind a door. We all have people in our lives that we have to have a hard conversations with, we have to open our doors and let them in.
In this ted talk by speaker Ash Beckham, she uses her own experiences to connect with the audience and viewers allowing them know we have to build up courage and be open and honest about our situations and who we are. Some may think they have it harder than others but, “there is no harder just hard”. We all are put into situations through our lives that make us take a step back and really make us think, do we want others to know? We all build up walls and hide behind them shutting yourself away. You may feel safe but a closet is no place for a person to live. We value honesty and openness but it’s hard to be honest and open when people do not accept our situations. You always should be honest and open no matter what people think. For it is ourselves that we are making happy not the ones around us, if we ourselves are happy then it should not matter what others think. Everyone has been there at a point in time and if they haven’t had to face a hard conversation yet, then they eventually will one day in time. Ash Beckham goes over three basic steps that she used, and that are simple for anyone to use in the time of opening your door or tearing down your wall; 1. Be authentic; be yourself because nothings better than the person you really are. You can hide and not be someone you are not. 2. Just say it; do not hold back. You just have to be open with yourself and others. 3. Be unapologetic; you are speaking your truth don’t apologizing for coming to someone and telling them what is going on. You can apologize for past actions that you have shown but not for opening up and being honest. I agree with Beckham. Being open and honest allows you to be yourself at all times. It may be hard but you have to do it, you need to. No one needs to hide behind a locked door. Americans value honesty but most of us cannot be honest with ourselves or each other and its time we start. Being honest with yourself also allows you to gain advancement on the path to your green light. It can allow you to have opportunities that bring you closer to your American Dream. |
