TED Talk #5, Stephen Burt
Poetry dates back in are history book for many generations and is still being created. Poetry allows us to get a new grasp on ideas and realistic events. Stephen Burt starts talking about the meaning of poetry in his life and says a quote that really caught my attention. He says that, “Poetry isn’t one thing that serves to one purpose”. Meaning that poetry can be attached to many things, it can have more than more reason for being created. It might be for someone to just get their thoughts down or it’s just and observation of a beautiful scenery. Poetry makes a patter to create a movement to all different types of emotion.
For everyone when they read a piece of poetry it effects them differently. Poetry can help people live with difficulties, it can sooth their problems and give them a way to relate to someone else. Poetry really can place a huge impact on an individual’s life, bringing people news and bringing some together as well as being a backbone through those who are going through a rough patch in their lives. Poems don’t show us the thoughts of those who wrote it but what it’s like to feel the emotion that person is feeling. Poems introduce people to different things that they never imagined or come across of. For those of the beat generation poetry influenced their whole lives. They were rebellious and creative individuals who wrote what came to them no matter the genre or what people thought. Their poetry and their generation is still being taught in schools today, Their work really can touch the lives on individuals, allowing for a person to be inspired and want to write and figure out where they belong and to be able to express themselves. Poetry really impacts millions of people and is created in all different types of forms today. |
